Garden Decking & Timber
A well designed and installed garden deck can transform your outdoor space into contemporary modern space to dine, relax or for the children to play.
It comes in a range of soft, hard or eco options varying in quality, timber type and size.
Decking is a great way to make practical use of slopes by creating different levels and areas of interest. It can cover up uneven or unsightly surfaces, making it a very practical choice for dealing with garden imperfections.
We have many timber options available and source decking from FSC grade wood local suppliers. FSC is independently certified as being responsibly managed to the highest environmental, social and economic standards.
We prefer to use Commercial grade pressure treated 38mm decking boards as these will last longer, are less prone to warping, splitting, and twisting due to wet and hot weather, than normal domestic decking boards (32mm before being planed, grooved & cut), if looked after correctly.
Here is a guide to the rules regarding Decking
From 1 October 2008 putting up decking, or other raised platform in your garden is permitted development, not needing an application for planning permission, providing:
- The decking is no more than 30 cm above the ground.
- Together with other extensions, outbuildings, etc. the decking or platforms cover no more than 50 percent of the garden area.
Building Regulations should be assumed to apply to every deck structure requiring planning permission. If you are unsure about whether you are required to comply, you may wish to contact your local council planning and building dept. for advice.
